How to convert hourly pay to a salary
Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work per year. The calculator also breaks the annual figure down into monthly, biweekly, and weekly pay so you can plan around real pay periods. All figures are gross — before tax and deductions.
The formula
Annual = Hourly wage × Hours per week × Weeks per year
Monthly is the annual figure ÷ 12, biweekly is ÷ 26, and weekly is ÷ 52 (or wage × hours).
Worked example
$25/hour, 40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year:
- Annual (gross): 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000
- Per month: ≈ $4,333 · Every 2 weeks: $2,000 · Per week: $1,000
Going the other way
To turn a salary back into an hourly rate, divide by the hours you work in a year. A $52,000 salary ÷ 2,080 hours (40 × 52) = $25/hour. This is handy for comparing a salaried offer against hourly or contract work.
Why weeks per year matters
Full-time is often assumed to be 52 weeks, but unpaid leave means fewer paid weeks. Lowering the weeks-per-year field gives a more realistic annual figure — for example, 50 paid weeks at $25 × 40 is $50,000, not $52,000.
Common mistakes to avoid
Treating gross pay as take-home — taxes and deductions reduce it. Forgetting unpaid weeks off. Comparing a salaried role to hourly work without converting to the same basis. Leaving out overtime, bonuses, or commission, which this tool doesn't include.
Frequently asked questions
What's a typical full-time assumption?
40 hours per week for 52 weeks a year, which is 2,080 working hours.
Is this gross or net pay?
Gross — before tax and deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower depending on your tax situation.
How do I convert a salary back to hourly?
Divide the annual salary by your hours per year. $52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25/hour.
Does this include overtime or bonuses?
No. It assumes a steady hourly rate. Add those separately if needed.
How do I handle part-time hours?
Enter your real hours per week and weeks per year — the annual figure scales automatically.
